Creating a Chart

The best way to display data in spreadsheets is by creating charts. Numbers
can usually be represented quicker to a larger audience in a picture format.
Excel has a chart program built into its main program. The Chart Wizard steps
a user through the process of creating charts and is the simplest method to
use.
There are many types of charts. The two most widely used are the
bar chart (or column) and pie chart. However, in this tutorial, only
the bar chart will be explained.
To create a bar chart using the Chart Wizard, follow the
given steps:
- Click on the Chart Wizard button located on the toolbar.
- A Chart Wizard dialogue window will appear. Here, you can
select the type of chart you want (e.g., column, bar, pie, line)
and what style (e.g., 3D effect, stacked). Once selected, click
the Next button.

- You will come to a window that will ask what Data Range you
want in the chart (Z-axis). Select the data by dragging your mouse
over the series of cells (e.g., student's final test scores).
Then, select whether that series of cells were in a row or column.
Try clicking on both and see which style you prefer.
- Click on the Series tab. Here, you will want to give the chart
a title and select which cells to include in the X-axis.
- Click the Next button and you will come to a new window. These
are all options that you can add to your chart to make it look
more attractive or functional. The following series of graphics
will demonstrate what can be done here.

- Click the Next button and you will see a new window. Select
the As New Sheet if you want the chart to be inserted into
a worksheet of its own. Select the As Object In if you want
the chart to appear on the same worksheet along with the
data.
- Click the Finish button and your chart will be
inserted into a new worksheet or on the same worksheet with the
data.
