Borders and Shading

Adding borders and shadows to text help accentuate information on your document
that you want the reader to take notice.
To add borders to text, follow the steps below:
- Select the text, phrase or word by highlighting it.
- Once highlighted, click on Format in the menu bar and then on
Borders and Shading.
- A window will appear. Here, you have several options such as
type of borders to use, thickness, location, and color. You can
also choose to apply it to the text you selected only or to the
paragraph.
- There are two types of borders that you can create for
textual information. Borders using the text option
surrounds only the word(s) selected. Borders using the
paragraph option extends across the entire length of the
page. See the examples below for an illustration.
To create a border for the page, you would click on the
Page Border tab and select the options there in the window to suit
your needs.
To add shading to text, you can adjust the color of a
particular border text or phrase (even if your text/phrase do not
have solid borders). Click on the Shading tab and select the options
you want.
