Once you highlight something, you are ready to move, copy, or paste the information.
To delete text, just press either the DELETE or BACKSPACE key. The information is completely erased from the window. If you accidentally delete the wrong information, hold down the CTRL key and press the letter Z.
Moving is a little different from deleting. Although the information is erased from the document, the information is temporarily stored on the Clipboard to be pasted elsewhere. To move the highlighted text, hold down the CTRL key and press the letter X to cut. Another way is to click on EDIT and then on Cut. The highlighted text disappears and goes to the Clipboard. The next step is to go to the place within the document (or between documents) where you want the text to be moved. Click in that area to ensure that the insertion point can be seen, and use the CTRL+V combination keys. This will paste the information into its new place.
Copying copies the highlighted information to be placed elsewhere in the document (or between documents). Once the selected text is highlighted, hold the CTRL key and press C. Another way is to go to EDIT in the Menu Bar and select Copy.
Pasting information is the last step. It takes whatever information is on the Clipboard and copies it someplace else. Go to the place in which you want the information to be pasted and click. Make sure the insertion point can be seen. Hold down the CTRL key and press V and there you have it. You can also choose the Paste command from the EDIT option on the Menu Bar. Because the Paste command only inserts a "copy" of the information, the information is still there waiting to be copied again. You can keep pasting the same information into other windows as long as you do not perform a new Cut or Copy command.
Cutting, copying, and pasting information can also be performed by going to the Toolbar and clicking on the appropriate buttons. This may be easier than memorizing all of the key combinations.
There is another way to move or copy information. First, highlight the selected text. Then, click on the highlighted text with the right-mouse button and hold. Keeping the right-mouse button held down, drag the selection pointer to its new place and let the right-mouse button go. A function menu will appear with options such as Move Here and Copy Here. Click on the desired function and away you go.
